TASTING NOTES
The 2016 Legítimo is a roughly equal blend of Touriga Franca, Touriga Nacional and Tinta Roriz, unoaked and coming in at 13.5% alcohol. The idea behind this was to do a lighter-styled red while keeping the structure. The name of the grape references "legitimate," more or less, sort of the opposite of the other lighter-styled red, the Bastardo. Here, there was only whole-bunch fermentation. It is fresh but not really that fruity. I was expecting something like a Beaujolais, but it is anything but. Less happily, it adds a touch of funk, perhaps a touch of reduction. That should (and needs to) blow off with some time or air. This is a nice food wine, showing fine structure and precision.
