The 2015 Alvarinho Muros de Melgaço was aged for six months in used French oak. Sourced from vines from 15 to 20 years in age, it comes in at 13% alcohol. Only showing its oak lightly, this is gorgeously balanced, fresh and even a little steely. Despite the wood, it seems remarkably transparent. The bite on the finish is mostly acidity, not wood related. That juicy finish is filled with fruit, and it is very refreshing. Do you want an enlivening, yet perfectly balanced Vinho Verde in warm weather? Here you go. Beautifully done in this vintage, the brand doesn't get much better. It is probably as good as any I've seen. It should age well and probably even better than the typical offering in the brand.
