Grape Varieties Touriga Nacional, Jaen, Alfrocheiro, Tinta Roriz
The 2016 Tinto is a blend of Touriga Nacional (50%), Jaen (20%), Alfrocheiro (15%), Tinta Roriz (10%) and Tinto Cão for the rest, all aged for ten months in used French oak. It comes in at 13.5% alcohol. The 2016 vintage was what Luis called a real Dão year, less full-bodied than the 2015s and with more acidity. Well, acidity is sure not too low here. This has gorgeous aromatics and intensely flavorful fruit, but what makes this pop on the palate is the acidity that lifts and frames the fruit. It's not a big or fleshy wine, but the structure is excellent and the flavors are irresistible. The silky texture is sensual. The tannins are relatively ripe, so you can drink this now, but it is just a little tight. I'm not entirely sure this has enough flesh to develop much—concentration is not the strong point here—but the acidity will surely preserve it.
